What is Fixed Range Volume Profile?
Another variant of the Volume Profile / VPVR concept. Unlike Session Volume Profile, which resets at fixed session boundaries, this lets the user manually select any start and end point on the chart — on any timeframe — and builds a single histogram for just that window.
Formula
User selects: startTime, endTime
For each price level within [startTime, endTime]: Volume(level) += traded volume
POC = price level with highest Volume(level) in selected range
Value Area = band from POC outward containing ~70% of the range's volumeParameters
| Parameter | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Range selection | Manual (user-drawn) | Arbitrary start/end anchors on the chart, any timeframe |
| Row/tick size | Auto | Price granularity of the histogram bins |
| Value Area % | 70% | Percentage of the selected range's volume defining the Value Area |
Signal Interpretation
- The POC of a selected rally/selloff shows the price level where the market did the most business during that move.
- A wide, evenly spread Value Area indicates balanced, rotational trading.
- Volume clustered near one edge of the range suggests a directional/trending move.
Tips & Best Practices
- Anchor the selection to a meaningful structural move for an informative profile.
- Re-draw the range as new structure forms; unlike Session Profile, it does not auto-update.
