What is Pivots High/Low?
Marks confirmed local swing highs and lows using a configurable number of bars on each side to confirm the pivot. Conceptually similar to Williams Fractals, but the left/right confirmation windows here are independently adjustable rather than fixed at 2 bars each side.
How It Works
- For each candidate bar, checks
leftbars before andrightbars after it. - A pivot high is confirmed when the candidate's high exceeds all bars in both windows.
- A pivot low is confirmed when the candidate's low is below all bars in both windows.
- Because
rightbars must fully form, markers appear with a slight lag equal to therightsetting.
Parameters
| Parameter | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| left | 3 | Bars before the candidate bar required for confirmation |
| right | 3 | Bars after the candidate bar required for confirmation |
Signal Interpretation
- Rising pivot lows confirm an uptrend's higher-low structure.
- Falling pivot highs confirm a downtrend's lower-high structure.
- A pivot high failing to exceed the prior one can flag early trend exhaustion.
- Pivots frequently double as natural stop-loss or structure-break reference levels.
- Pivots aligning with BOS/CHoCH events reinforce that break's significance.
Tips & Best Practices
- Use a wider window on higher timeframes to capture only significant swings.
- Use a narrower window for faster, more responsive detection intraday.
- The adjustable window lets you match sensitivity to the instrument's volatility.
